20 B tongue twisters: the mumbler's first fix

B is a pressure sound: lips sealed, air builds, pop. When people say you mumble, half the time it's B (and its cousins P and M) coming out with lazy lips — the seal never quite closes, and "big" drifts toward "vig," "bay" toward something between B and P. Speech therapists start articulation work with B for exactly this reason: it's the easiest sound to feel.

Classic B runs

1. Betty Botter bought some butter, but she said the butter's bitter.
2. A big black bug bit a big black bear.
3. Bake big batches of bitter brown bread.
4. Bill had a billboard. Bill also had a board bill.

B and P are the same mouth position — the only difference is voice. Feel your throat buzz on B, stay silent on P:

Endurance B

How to drill B

1. Feel the seal. Say "b-b-b" with a finger on your lips — you should feel a real pop each time, not a soft brush.
2. Exaggerate for a week. Comically explosive B's in practice make normally-crisp B's automatic.
3. Check the voice. Hand on throat: B buzzes, P doesn't. If your B's don't buzz, they're P's in disguise.
4. Verify by recording. Soft B's are nearly impossible to hear in your own speech. Record any twister above on the tongue twister test — the AI scores clarity per attempt, and blurred B's show up immediately.
